David Sloan – Chairman
David first played Real Tennis at school – Canford of course; back then, but don’t ask when, it was the only school with a court. He continued at Cambridge and the highlight of his competitive playing was going with a combined Oxford and Cambridge team to the Easter tournament in Bordeaux and winning it. Downhill all the way after that and somehow his career as a doctor and other interests got in the way. However a chance encounter a few years ago got him back on court and having got over the humiliation of missing the first few balls he remembered what a fantastic game this Real Tennis is!
He now chairs MURTC Ltd and is passionate not only about the game but about making Middlesex, with its superb court, the “must be” place for Real Tennis enthusiasts to belong to.
Nick Hamilton – Financial Director
If Nick was asked to give up being a Chartered Accountant for a life playing Real Tennis he would reckon it being more than a fair swap! Nick, who is the Hon Financial Director of the club, took the game up 3 years ago having played squash and tennis with varying degrees of proficiency over the years but was left lacking a year round sport he was passionate about playing his other passion is playing cricket). Nick came up to see an exhibition match at the Burroughs and was hooked within about 30 seconds of watching a game - much to the amusement of his wife who can instantly recognise a new sporting obsession. Playing around a mid fifties handicap he strives to keep his handicap below his age which luckily in his case moves steadily in the opposite direction.
Ged Eden – Professional
Ged has been with MURTC since April 2007, after having been Head Pro at Societe Sportive de Jeu de Paume in Paris. Prior to this he worked in New York, Bordeaux, and London (at the Harbour Club).
An avid (read: rabid) sports fan, don’t get Ged started on the Geelong football club, the Red Sox, New England Patriots or Ashes disasters or you may not hear the end of it! No passion of Ged’s is greater than his for Real Tennis, particularly in helping people find the game and improve their level of play.
Originally from Hobart, Tasmania, he doesn’t much use the Sociology & Political Science degree he got there, but finds time to co-ordinate the International Real Tennis Professionals Association National League, and is the Chairman of the Association.
Matty Ronaldson – Professional
Matty joined us in April 2010 after having spent two years in France running the club in Paris and Fontainebleau clubs. He also spent 2 years running the Prested Hall Racket Club after learning the trade from his father Steve (Canford Head Professional), and his uncle Chris (Former World Champion & Radley Head Pro) whilst he was trainee at Hampton Court.
As a player, Matty won many titles as a junior with the most notable being the U24 British Open singles and doubles when he was 21. Unaviodable back surgery put a halt to Matty’s playing career shortly after this and for 3 years, he was unable to compete at any level, although now he is back playing to a solid 2 handicap.
Born into the renowned Ronaldson dynasty, Matty has eaten, drunk and slept Real Tennis his whole life. He greatly enjoys coaching all levels of player, and is fastidious around the Pro shop.
Away from work, Matty plays a host of other sports, and has an uncanny knack of enjoying all the things which are not good for his athleticism! He lives life in a jocular manner, so watch out as he is always ready to pounce!
